What is Project Red and Blue?
This coming summer, students will be given the opportunity to participate in a highly-acclaimed summer program called, “Project Red & Blue.” Project “Red & Blue” is a collaborative effort between Claremont Middle School and School Resource Officer / Crystal Simonds of the Claremont Police Department. The summer leadership academy provides a no cost (to students), developmentally appropriate summer camp experience for middle school students that fosters academic success, builds leadership skills, and promotes community engagement.
Students will be offered hands-on learning opportunities that include group problem-solving, relevant real-world application of skills and future planning. the goal of project red & blue is to help students understand they are part of a global community and that they have the power to positively influence and improve our community.
Project red & blue will be offered to 20 students, this will include the 2017/2018, 6th, 7th, 8th-grade students. In order to be fair, the student interested in the program will be requested to write and essay. Participant selection will be based on the completion of the essay. The essay topic will be:
Make your mark on the world. “How will people remember ME in 100 years?”
We encourage all students writing the essay to reach out to staff for any assistance that may be needed. The program will run three days a week, with the dates as follows (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) July 11,12,13 – July 18,19,20 – July 25,26,27.
Project red & blue will consist of three components: Academic, Adventure, and Community Service. in the academic component, students will receive instruction in the core areas of language arts and math. Guest speakers will be brought in to speak to the students to inspire them to achieve higher goals and feel better about themselves. There will also be hands-on activities the students will participate in to inspire team building. The adventure component will help promote self-confidence, the development of leadership skills as well as team building opportunities. These trips will be conducted outside of Claremont and transportation will be provided. The community service component will engage the students and will bring the group together to show what great things can be accomplished when you work as a team.
Activities are being sponsored by various businesses around the community as well as fundraising received from local grants. Activities will vary from hands-on activities at the school to outdoor adventures. These activities will help foster friendships and confidence.
